PPV PARO VS NAVARRO
Making his home country ring appearance, Paro (25-1, 15 KOs) looks to return to winning ways. The 29-year-old lost his IBF super lightweight title by split decision against Richardson Hitchins last December in Puerto Rico, suffering his first career defeat.
The Mackay, Queensland native takes on once-beaten Navarro (18-1, 9 KOs) of East Los Angeles, who also looks to bounce back from a defeat. The 28-year-old suffered a points decision loss to Jair Valtierra in his international debut last December in Ireland.
UFC 317
Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira will clash in one of the biggest MMA fights of the year this month, as they vie for the vacant lightweight title in the main event of UFC 317.
When Topuria vacated the featherweight belt in February, he immediately set his sights on the lightweight strap, which was soon relinquished by pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev – who is similarly eyeing a title shot at a higher weight.
While Makhachev vs Topuria would have been one of the most fascinating fights in the sport, Topuria vs Oliveira is a strong consolation. The Spanish-Georgian is unbeaten, while Brazil’s Oliveira is a former 155lb champion and holds the records for the most finishes and submissions in UFC history.
PAUL VS CHAVEZ JR
Jake Paul returns to the ring to box Julio Cesar Chavez Jr next weekend, fighting for the first time since his controversial clash with Mike Tyson.
Paul has gone 11-1 as a boxer since making his pro debut in 2020, facing fellow YouTubers, mixed martial artists, and pro boxers along the way. All the while, he has received credit and criticism, but more so the latter, especially as he fought a 58-year-old Tyson in November.
Paul, 28, outpointed the former heavyweight champion yet admitted to holding back, and now he prepares to face another ex-world champion: Chavez Jr, son of the legendary Julio Cesar Sr.
Chavez Jr, 39, improved his hefty record to 54-6-1 by outpointing UFC alum Uriah Hall across six rounds last July, but just four years ago, he suffered a surprising decision loss to UFC legend Anderson Silva.
